6th Annual Toy Collection and Holiday Party- The Law Offices of John Phillips

Let's talk about last night!

Hubby and I went to the 6th Annual Toy Collection Benefit and Holiday Party at The Law Offices of John Phillips. Each year grows to an even better event which you don't think is possible until you get there for the magic.

They bring in over 20 TONS of SNOW, yes snow, in Jacksonville, FL and its formed into a hill with a play area surrounding it, as well as having blowers set up at various points blanketing SNOW flurries over the entire event. Lights are strung up around the trees and stage along with other decorations, the huge boombox he owns is parked behind DJ EL, there are fully stocked bars inside and outside (with plenty of Capri Suns for the kiddos), a room literally filled with food, the mascots for the Jaguars, Icemen and Jumbo Shrimp plus Santa and the Chik-fil-a cow even made an appearance with free chicken biscuits halfway through the night. Mama Blue kicked off the night before DJ EL and had everyone swaying to her soulful sounds while watching the kids slide down the hill and everyone conversing all night. A good time was had by all.

This year we invited our friend Chef X of Xclusively Kissed. She and her daughter had a blast, got a light saber, met some awesome people and participated in the fun of it all. Hubby and I ate well (there were a few options for me, yayyy) and of course danced all night long, which I am paying for today but it was so worth it. When the DJ played Cupid Shuffle not a single person danced to it until I got out there and did it with the toy soldier on stilts! lolol.. He even thanked me afterwards saying he hadn't done the dance for years and followed me to get back in the grove of it. Reminded me of the time I started the cupid shuffle in the middle of the street at One Spark and a huge crowd joined in.

The biggest reason for the party though is community. John started this as his office holiday party and it has grown well beyond that. It's a party for people to come together from all walks of life and just enjoy the spirit of Christmas, a night where you can play under the stars in a flow of flurries or meet new people from across town. More than anything though it is a Collection of Toys each year for some of the hardest hit kids in our city who need to get some holiday magic and John makes sure we all get a little piece of that magic too. Special thank you to my employer, H2Om FLOAT, who sponsored the toys for us to take the 2nd year in a row!

Follow the Law Offices of John Phillips on all your social pages and look for ways to help your community come together, we ALL need it now more than ever! If you have an amazing event in your city you want us to attend and/or highlight shoot me an email with Community Event in the subject line.

Meanwhile I'm at the office sippin on this iced coffee.

Much Love,
~Ktown

Gluten-Free on I-95

I love traveling.. road trips, flying and even by boat. I just love to go. I didn't travel a lot as a kid.. Until I was 10 the only states I'd been to were my home state of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and Washington DC. By the time I'd graduated I had added North Carolina and Kentucky. I live in Florida now but my first time here was in 2002 and at 38 years of age I have only added South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, New York (airport only) and Connecticut to the list as well as The Bahamas (Freeport) and Cuba. I still have a million places I want to go.. Now though it's all a bit trickier because of my allergies.. I have been diagnosed as allergic to gluten, cats, pine trees and a few other things. I seem to have reactions to other things and need to be tested for more in addition to other health issues I have that food can complicate. This makes traveling HARD. I have to be careful at every place I go.. eating at events is completely out of the qu

Lost Dreams

It's 2011, times are tough and everyone is out here grinding to get to the top... So many have lost their jobs due to the recession and have to take jobs doing whatever comes their way just to have food on the table and a roof over their head. Not many really want to flip burgers or work the local department store register but if you want to survive we do what we have to do. It's how the country works... if there was noone flipping burgers, where would we get our food? What does this have to do with dreams? well a lot.... As a child one of the questions we are asked most often is what do you want to be when you grow up? Some ponder this and reply with whatever their mommy or daddy does, others reply doctor or fireman, some just don't know. We are told we can do anything! We can concure the world if we work hard, pay attention and try.. then real world hits... you gradute school and have more bills than zeros on your check, you get pregnant, or hurt yourself and lose a s

Baecation at Sunrise Painting

Have you ever heard a song and just saw a visual in your mind as you listened? During the COVID 19 Pandemic I have found myself painting even more. Having created my whole life I'd never painted actual paintings on canvas. My medium has primarily been wood and glass, learning as I go with no real teachings from anyone other than hours and hours of playing with my Gramma's paints or watching my Mom draw. When painting my first canvas piece of a sunrise last year I immediately knew I needed to paint more on canvas. I grew up at a time where music videos were EVERYTHING. The effects, guest appearances and story lines mattered. When most songs from my teen years start playing I immediately see the video in my head and think back to what was happening in my life at that time and the impacts the music and more made on me. That's what art does. It comes in so many forms but it is always a part of the times. After painting that first canvas I was riding in the car one day and th
